I dreamt that my husband Roger and I decided to ride bikes across the country for no apparent reason. At first things seemed to go okay and we rode a very long way without feeling tired, but somewhere in Arkansas, I had to stop to check my tires because they seemed a little flat, and that’s when Roger got ahead of me and I lost track of him. My tires were flat, but I couldn’t stay where I was because I was on a hilly section of interstate and I knew I shouldn’t be there on a bike. I pedaled to the top of hill, avoiding oncoming traffic, and came to an intersection. I didn’t know which way Roger had gone, but there was a gas station on the right so I stopped in there to put air in my tires only to find one tire had a hole in it and both had the treads scrubbed off. I tried to fill the tires anyway, but the one with the hole kept deflating. I tried to see Roger’s location on my phone but it wouldn’t work right and I couldn’t find him. I tried to call him but got my dad, who was tired and couldn’t come get me because I was more than 1,000 miles from home. I went to the window and noticed kids riding bikes and having fun outside. I tried Roger again and someone else answered that I didn’t know. I asked where Roger was and the person on the phone said he was there but she was filling his prescription for him, and then I heard hold music. I felt incredibly frustrated, but eventually Roger answered. I told him what happened and that there was no way I was gonna be able to make it to Texas but I didn’t know how to get home. I had no money and no transportation. He sounded uninterested. I asked him where he was but he didn’t tell me. A sudden thunderstorm rolled in and it was the loudest I’ve ever heard. I actually thought maybe it was a tornado, but I never saw a funnel cloud. There were a lot of lightning strikes nearby and the lights went out. I heard footsteps coming down a hallways to my left and eventually the gas station attendant came into the room and asked why the lights were off. She turned them back on. I tried to explain to Roger how scary this storm was but he wasn’t understanding. Suddenly there were people in the other room, a mom, a dad, and a little boy playing with toy cars, and they seemed completely unaffected by the storm. I noticed the house across the street was on fire, and when I mentioned it to Roger, the man in the other room calmly said, “so call the fire department,” like it wasn’t a big deal. I told Roger I’d call him right back and hung up, but when I tried to call the fire department, my phone wouldn’t work again. Frustrated, scared and exhausted by everyone’s lack of concern, and feeling horribly alone, I threw my phone aside.
